5 Ways Technology is Changing Healthcare Careers

5 Ways Technology is Changing Healthcare Careers In the past century, healthcare has drastically improved. Antibiotics, surgical techniques, and pharmaceuticals have developed, making the world a healthier place for humans. In the pre-modern world, life expectancy was around thirty-years-old. Today, the average human life expectancy has doubled. The reason why we’re living longer and healthier lives can all be attributed to one thing: healthcare. However, our development doesn’t end here. With the advancement of technology, healthcare is continuing to improve. Though, how does technology affect healthcare jobs? We’re going to discuss the way technology is changing careers in the health industry. Moving away from paper When you see a doctor, they’re usually holding a giant file with your name on it. This file contains every test, every check-up, and every exam you’ve taken at that specific clinic or hospital. However, with the introduction of EHR (Electronic Health Records), patient information is now accessible via a digital device. This safeguards the patient from the potential risk of losing an essential medical file and saves the healthcare works administrative time to file and store your medical information. Online health careers Ten years ago, when you wanted to buy a bottle of vitamin C or Ashwagandha, you had to drive to the pharmacy or get a prescription from your doctor. However, through the rise in popularity of online shopping, the sales of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals are booming. In 2017, e-commerce sales of pharmaceuticals and beauty aids were 29.6 billion US dollars. With the development of e-commerce, people are creating new healthcare careers right from their computers. Working on Your Brand Delivers Cutting Edge Skills - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Working on Your Brand Delivers Cutting Edge Skills - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career A successful personal brand differentiates you as a dynamic, growing professional, so it evolves along with market demands (employer requirements) and your growing skills. When your skills keep current with changing market demands, your brand stays relevant and you maximize your earnings potential. From a practical POV, this demands an objective way to track relentlessly changing employer needs. A practical point of view (POV) The most reliable approach is with a Gap analysis  (the gap between where we are and where we need to be) with a career-management focus.   And with the two additional applications that I’ll share at the end, this is a tactic you’ll be using for years. Gap analysis Step One. Collect 6 job postings for the job you would pursue if you were looking for one right now. Step Two. Create a Word document where you will prioritize these employers’ needs. Look through the job postings for a single requirement that is common to all six, then copy and paste it into your document.   Place #6 alongside the entry to identify that this requirement is common to all 6 job postings. Repeat this exercise for other requirements common to all 6 jobs. Step Three. Repeat the exercise for all requirements common to five of the job postings, and then four, and so on all the way down to those requirements mentioned in only one. Step Four. Review the document to identify the current, most cutting-edge skills required to execute each of these requirements. Step Five. Review each individual requirement and recall the best person you have ever known doing that work and what made this person stand out. Do this conscientiously, and you will have a behavioral blueprint for professional success: a complete behavioral profile of the person everyone wants to work with, every employer wants to hire. Step Six. Look one last time at each individual requirement and recall the worst person you have ever known doing that work and what made this person stand out. Do this conscientiously as well and you will have a complete behavioral profile of the person no one wants to work with, no employer wants to hire; in other words, a behavioral blueprint for guaranteed professional failure. The completed document is a profile of the skills and behaviors you need for a marketable brand today. Do this on a regular basis to maintain the cutting edge skills that differentiate your brand. I promised you two other applications for this neat little career management tool: This same process guarantees your résumé focuses on employer priorities. For a promotion, decide on the title of your target job and this same exercise will deliver a skill development plan to qualify you for that next step up the professional ladder. 7 Ways to Make Your Weekend More Memorable CareerMetis.com

7 Ways to Make Your Weekend More Memorable â€" CareerMetis.com When you’re trying to build a successful career, you’re likely to be tempted to spend your weekends trying to fit in extra work, job hunting or studying. However, research has shown that we need our weekends to have a break from our busy lives, not just for our health and sanity, but also because it helps us be more productive during the week by making us happier and more creative. So if you want to be 12% more productiveand 50% more creative, you need to be making sure your weekend is packed full of activities that give your brain both the time to relax and to be inspired.Instead of having a weekend that you can barely remember, be creating memories of new experiences and emotions, and to help you achieve this, this infographicshares a series of tips backed by scientific research to make your weekend last longer:1) Just Do ItevalevalSpontaneity is great brain fuel because we store more details in our memories when we’re doing something new or surprising. So instead of getting s tuck in the same old weekend routine, get out there and do something completely different on the spur of the moment. Your brain will thank you for it.2) Switch Your Phone OffSpending five days a week attached to our smartphones and emails and social media is quite enough, with the effect that we constantly feel hurried. That’s the last thing you need at the weekend, so leave your phone behind or at least turn it off so that you’re no longer at its beck and call.3) Try Being MindfulIf you want to avoid seeing Saturday and Sunday flash past your eyes in no time at all, you need to slow things down and the best way to do this is to live in the moment. Practicing mindfulness doesn’t necessarily mean sitting with your legs crossed chanting, it can be as simple as focusing on washing the dishes or chewing your food.4) Listening To MusicAnother good way to get into a zen frame of mind is to sit back, put on your favorite music and just listen to it. That might be spinning a disc on a record player or plugging into Spotify, but whatever you choose, just let your mind wander and let your prefrontal cortex close down, giving you a feeling of time coming to a stop.eval5) Try Something NewYou can slow time down by doing something as simple as listening to music, but you can also have a similar effect by giving your brain something to do, especially if it’s something new. Learning a new skill â€" something fun like cookery or a sporting activity â€" makes your brain work harder which means you feel like more time has passed.6) Get CompetitiveA surprising piece of research found that you can make time feel like it’s gone more slowly by looking at faces that are full of emotion, rather than emotionless ones. Playing a competitive sport is a good way to make emotions run high and to have a great time in the process, so this is something to try and include in your weekends.7) Get ScaredWatching movies is always a fun activity at the weekend, but did you know that the type of movie you watch can have an impact on how long your weekend actually feels like it lasted? Studies have shown that when we are scared, our brains record store extra memories because the amygdala becomes much more active, so a good horror movie is definitely the best way to go if you want to have had a weekend to remember.evalNone of these tips are difficult to try and they will not only help you feel like your weekend has lasted longer, but make you more productive and more creative too, so why not start trying them out?Infographic Credit â€" BudgetDirect.com.au

Reflections on my Career as a Mom

Reflections on my Career as a Mom Today is my daughters 16th birthday and it has been a day of reflection for me. Perhaps Im particularly introspective this year because I see this birthday as such a milestone as she begins to leave her childhood behind and embark on her journey into young adulthood.  All morning Ive been asking myself the same questions I pose to my clients when I ask them to reflect on their career history, but Im applying those questions to my alter-career as a mom. Im thinking about the different challenges and obstacles I have faced as a mother, what my greatest achievements as a mom have been to date, what I am known for as a mom, and what skills I have developed as a mom. This exercise is helping me to prepare for what lies ahead. I know the challenges I will face parenting a child through her later teenage years will intensify and wont be solved by a hug. I know my ideas and beliefs will be questioned or passed over as my daughter continues to find herself. I feel like I am entering into a n ew job (a promotion maybe?) with a new boss, new corporate culture, new demands, and new responsibilities. There is bound to be a learning curve in the beginning and I want to feel that I have done my homework and am up for the challenge. Thinking about my past successes will help make me feel more confident in my parenting style as I move through these potentially turbulent years. How about you? Have you thought about your achievements, both professionally and personally lately? This can sometimes be a hard exercise, but its value is priceless. In order to effectively manage our careers, it is important to take time out periodically to think about what you have accomplished over the past year. Doing so can help you feel more confident in pursuing your future career goals and positioning yourself as the candidate of choice should you decide to apply for a new position.

Clarify Expectations for Your Job Search -

Clarify Expectations for Your Job Search - Photo by yourpaldave Growing up, my good friend frequently offered two words of advice that seemed to work for most any situation. The advice? Clarify expectations. Think about it how many problems would be prevented if only the parties had set up specific expectations prior to engaging in whatever caused friction or hurt feelings? Letting everyone know what to expect upfront is a great problem-preventing strategy. So, why am I telling you about my friend? I think his advice works well for job seekers. Clarifying expectations for your job hunt will solve you countless problems and needless anxiety. Clarify how long you expect to search for a job. In the old days, the figure that was tossed around was to expect to search one month for every $10,000 in salary. So, if you are hoping to earn $80,000 expect an 8-month search. The fact is, there is no specific data that indicate how long it will take to find a job. Everyones situation is unique. While hiring a resume writer or coach will most likely shorten your search, and focusing your hunt in productive areas (networking) and avoiding time drains (zapping tons of resumes online) will help, theres no hard data on the subject. So, you are kind of on your own here. Assuming you need to find a job, the choice factor mostly pertains to holding out for the right job. Maybe you have opportunities to take positions for less money than youd like, or jobs that are not as interesting or challenging, but you want to hold out as long as possible for a job youd appreciate. Think about thisWhat is your time line? What is your financial situation? How long can you wait before you will need to take a job any job? Be clear with yourself and realistic with your expectations. Most people probably wont be able to pick up their dream job in a month, but maybe your network is so evolved and your job hunting skills so well trained that you can meet that deadline. Your search will be more productive if you know how long youll allow yourself to hunt. You may be less stressed after one or two months if youve recognized and clarified the fact that you expect your search to take 6 months or more. Stay tuned for more tips about how clarifying expectations will help you in your job hunt. Keppie Careers is here to help you meet your expectations. Do you need a great resume?
